Introduction to Teen Speak

In collaboration with Childhood and Adolescent Health (New Jersey Department of Health). This presentation will introduce Teen Speak NJ, its purpose, its core content, and how you can join the initiative to help improve communication and help address the mental health crisis. Created by Dr. Jennifer Salerno, Teen Speak is a motivational interviewing-based course designed to strengthen the confidence of parents, caregivers, and youth‑serving professionals. This presentation will go over the definition of a "Healthy Home", why "Healthy Homes" are important, and describe the elements of a "Healthy Home". From Understanding to Action: Disability and Accessibility

The purpose of this training is to shift the CHW’s perspective from viewing disability as a "medical problem to fix" to recognizing it as a natural part of the human experience, framed by societal barriers rather than individual deficits. Additionally, the training will help CHWs understand accessibility beyond compliance—framing it as a mindset and practice rooted in equity, inclusion, and usability across environments and interactions. Understanding IDD and Communication Strategies for the Spectrum of Disabilities

The purpose of this training is to distinguish between "helping" (fixing a problem for one person) and "advocating" (addressing root causes/rights) and to equip CHWs with the skills to navigate NJ systems. Additionally, the training will equip CHWs with foundational knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism, including their healthcare implications, to better support individuals and advocate for equitable care. The purpose of this training is to equip CHWs with practical skills to communicate clearly and respectfully with people who have diverse disabilities, utilizing the CARE Model.
